Sometimes you have to get out of your comfort zone experience something new. I am a foodie, and love to cook and try new restaurant venues. My husband and I had the opportunity to join as a member and part of a group of the GrubClub that is a division of the Let's Dine Out California on PBS 24 program. Joining the Grubclub is free and you get notifications each month of the restaurants that is planned. Allan Borgen visits different restaurants that are recommended and he purposefully visits them and then if he feels that it is a thumbs up, he video reviews them for the Let's Dine Out California program that airs several times a week. If the restaurant  can accommodate our group for a minimum for a tasting it will be selected.  This month the Ocean an Earth Restaurant in Yorba Linda California was selected for a tasting. It is posted on the Grubclub for the month and you can decide whether you want to attend. Usually the tasting consists of 12 courses which can be combined into groups or individual platings. When I first read the menu for our event for the night, I was a little bit weary because I'm really not into fish, and it appeared that there was quite a selection of varied fish dishes on their menu sampling, for our group. I have found that way that foods are prepared sometimes can convert most people to at least sample foods and ingredients that is not a favorite or would not even have attempted to try.  This was definitely my experience at The Ocean and Earth gluten free restaurant. The incredible visionary chef, Adam Navidi converted me into a believer, that if the food is prepared and presented properly even the die-hard that dislike certain foods can be can become a convert. I personally never experienced salmon that I've ever enjoyed, or would even attempt a second bite. As a matter of fact the smell of salmon and most fish turn me off. However, tonight I once again decided to take the epicurean plunge, and try once again. Completely out of my comfort tastes and likes, I sampled the salmon. It was presented as part of the sampling tasting. I can't believe I ate the whole piece. The wild salmon was plated on a plank along with Grass Fed wagyu (from Australian Wagyu Beef) tri-tip, basil potato puree, and what appeared to be a raw egg but was actually mango. Great presentation and the portions were just right for each of the presented samplings.
Allan borgen The Host let's Dine Out show and the founder of the Grub Club recommended this restaurant to me telling me it was a unique experience food was excellent he was sure that I would like it even knowing how critical I am about food and restaurants. The restaurant is quite a bit further from where I live, to make it a frequent visit, but I will definitely put it on my agenda every couple of months. The chef Adam
Navidi has created a gluten free restaurant and offers sustainable farm to table offering. He has his own location/farm, where he raises a lot of his vegetables and  herbs, has his own bee hives, and I believe is involved in Aquaponics Farming. He told us about some future innovative ideas for his restaurant, that sounds exciting. He even has his own bee hives.  The staff was extremely attentive and well prepared in answering questions. my husband and I had alcoholic drinks and they were a good pour, and I ordered an Old Fashion, and it was served with a Luxardo cherry from Italy that has  zero artificial coloring.  In most restaurants when an Old Fashion is served it could be with a maraschino cherries, which are the american counterpart and tastes artificial.  Each of the courses came out in a timely manner. The restaurant space is not particularly large and the ambiance is rather bland almost a coffee shop decor, but you can't tell a book by its cover because what comes out of that kitchen is incredible. Every dish that we tried was extremely tasty it had just the right sauce reductions and seasonings and you can tell the ingredients used are the best quality. I am not sure what it takes to make a restaurant a Michelin Star, but the Ocean and Earth definitely deserves at least 5 Jakki stars.  This restaurant is definitely a diamond and I would never have discovered if it had not been for the grub Club and Allan Borgen.

My family generously took me out to eat for my birthday. While I appreciated the gluten free menu, and the atmosphere on the patio was great, I was otherwise unimpressed and disappointed by the price and the size of the servings.
The food was above average, but very small servings. The albacore on the surf and turf was very thin (about 3/8") and about 2" x 3" and the steak about 3 to 4 oz.  We had one salad, an appetizer, and 3 deserts, no alcohol, one soda, and 4 entrees. I was surprised when the bill was $270.  I'm not sure $$ is really accurate.
The waitress was very friendly and helpful, but hard to find as she was clearly very busy inside.
This would be a great place to go if you are not very hungry or on a budget.

I was visiting my son and daughter in law in Yorba Linda last weekend.  On Saturday, they decided to take us to Oceans & Earth which they had heard was good, but had never been to.  We arrived and they offered a booth, due to certain restrictions, I requested a table.  They had to do some shuffling, but were able to accommodate us but Barbie seemed a bit put out by my request (hence only 4 stars instead of 5.)

We ordered crab cakes for an appetizer and some wine, I asked for a Shiraz and was delighted with the glass I was served.  Even my wife who prefers her wine on the white and sweet side, agreed that it was fantastic.  When the waiter came for our orders, I asked him what the chef suggests for this evening (they are a farm to table restaurant, always ask what is the freshest!)  He said he would go ask the chef.

While he was gone, another waiter brought us delicious corn bread with whipped European style butter, yum.  Our waiter came back with two suggestions, the steamed halibut or fresh scallops.  Two great choices for someone who doesn't normally like fish, but both halibut and scallops are delicious and not fishy at all.  I ordered the scallops.  They were served with what they call Billion Dollar Bacon and roasted vegetables.  I don't eat bacon, but my wife (who ordered the blue cheese wedge salad) said the bacon was delicious and tasted a lot like Filipino tocino.  My son ordered the Koby-style flank steak and said it was to die for and my daughter in law ordered the Koby burgher.

The portions were just right, not too big although both my son and daughter in law took home some left-overs, my wife and I licked our plates clean, so to speak.  None of us was in the mood for desert, so I can't review that, but for our meal, it was heavenly.  I can strongly recommend this place if you have a hankering for delicious nuevo American food.  Did I mention they are gluten-free and all organic?  I didn't miss the wheat one bit!

What a shame. We used to come here a lot. The food was always great, and the service spot on. We hadn't been to Oceans and Earth for a while because we live on the other side of town, and have been really busy.

So today we decided to go back and have what we thought would be a great meal. The service was good as always, but the food was an entirely different story.

My wife ordered the fish and chips. The fish- Tilapia  talk about the worst fish you could eat. It's a bottom feeding ugly carp. And it's very thin. Because of its girth, the chef and owner of this establishment decided he would make up for us by using a TON of batter. Seriously, they give you 3 filets. Each filet consists of 20% fish, 80% batter. It's a soggy doughy nightmare. Truly disgusting representation of what this dish should be. (To the owner: if you bother reading these, ATLANTIC COD is the only real fish you should be using for this dish).

I ordered the stacked seafood enchiladas. I waited an extra 10 minutes to get it, after my family had been served their meals. Almost like is was an oh crap, we forgot to make this. But ok, no problem. The dish resembled nothing of what you'd think an enchilada would look like. It was buried in his watery, soupy mixture. It was so discombobulated, you really couldn't tell what the hell you were eating. It was just a collage of bits of food. Then once you tried to actually get to the tortilla, it was stuffed with potatoes!  Who would put potatoes in a seafood enchilada??? The dish was absolutely dreadful.

We did say something to the server, which I was asked if I wanted a spoon to eat the enchiladas. And no, I'm not kidding, a spoon. They never once offered to take it back, even after the complaint. They never offered to substitute anything. Nothing. We even talked to the owner/chef as we were walking out and all we received from him was "yah, uh huh, yeah, yeah, hmmm, sorry."

So you got the last of my money, and I suspect if you keep serving that mess, you've gotten the last of a lot of people's money
